Great Wall was discovered by Plant Geographer J. Russell Smith on the Great Wall in China in the 1930s. We have trees from that original tree that have been growing on our farm since Dr. Dunstan grafted them in the 1960s. It is astringent with medium-sized fruit (3" diameter) and excellent sweet flavor. It is very cold hardy for an Oriental persimmon and growers report to us that they will grow and produce fruit successfully in Pennsylvania! Ripens in September-October
