Apples

Apples should be planted in every food plot, as they are one of the best types of trees for deer and wildlife.  Apple varieties differ in chilling requirement, the amount of winter temperatures necessary to induce the tree to break dormancy and begin to flower and bear.  We list the Zones where each variety can be grown. We also have chosen some older varieties that are disease resistant (so can be grown without sprays or much care).

Crabapples are also very attractive to deer.  We have selected varieties that have longer ripening times, and that hold their fruit over a longer period of time so that the deer keep  coming back to feed.
