    Dwarf Chinkapin Oak forms a shrub or small tree usually not more than 20 feet tall. It can produce its first crop of acorns at 3-5 years of age. Dwarf Chinquapins is one of the best native shrub oaks. Unlike, many oaks, once it starts bearing, it has a good crop almost every year. It's acorns are also less bitter and more palatable to wildlife than most other oaks.
    Normally found on dry rocky soils associated with oak-pine type forests. Suitable pH- acid, neutral and basik (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers dry or moist soil. The plant can tolerates strong winds but not maritime exposure.
